S/S23: ‘Frontier’ Editorial

Vast stretches of arid land, sharp cliffs and steep canyons provide the backdrop for Frontier, an editorial shot by photographer Javier Ruiz in Bardenas Reales, Spain.

This facet of Spring/Summer 2023 offers a contemporary vision of the western themes seen in past collections. There is a focus on heavyweight, robust denim items such as the Saledo Jacket, which combines elements from both the Michigan Coat and Detroit Jacket. Pleat detailing at the back accentuates the style’s loose, roomy fit.

A work-inspired silhouette appears in the form of the Wide Panel Pant in Marshall canvas, which features angular double knee detailing and a wide, voluminous silhouette that tapers towards the ankle.

The western theme of this selection is further explored through the Coba Stripe Shirt, with its mix of vertical stripes, checkerboard patterns, and geometric motifs, as well as in the Women’s S/S Coba Shirt, detailed with ornate embroidery.

The S/S Black Jack Shirt, meanwhile, offers a strong graphic element to this part of the collection – its central motif can also be seen in the Big Buck Bandana. The selection is rounded out by the Darper Jacket, which is a modern take on a classic ranch coat, executed in lightweight cotton poplin and featuring a corduroy collar that nods to archetypal Carhartt WIP garments.
