Job Summary

 

Carhartt Work in Progress (WIP) is looking for an experienced and dynamic Store Manager to lead our flagship location at 286 Lafayette St. in New York. As the Store Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of a high-volume, fast-paced retail environment, ensuring exceptional customer experiences while driving sales, managing staff, and maintaining operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in managing a high-traffic retail store, with a strong understanding of business functions including sales, merchandising, marketing, systems operations, and inventory management. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to drive business success and create a structured, results-oriented environment.

 

Core Responsibilities

 

  • Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing retail team. Champion Carhartt WIP’s brand values while inspiring growth, ensuring the team delivers top-tier customer service and hits sales targets. Foster an environment of continuous learning and personal development.
  • Drive the store's financial performance by setting and exceeding sales goals. Provide ongoing training and feedback to your team to ensure targets are met consistently. Monitor sales trends and adjust strategies as needed to meet both short- and long-term business objectives.
  • Ensure every customer enjoys a world-class shopping experience. Create a welcoming, client-focused environment through active coaching and feedback to staff on customer service techniques, visual merchandising, and product knowledge.
  • Manage daily store operations, ensuring smooth execution of tasks and processes. Handle store administration, including compliance with company policies and procedures, stock maintenance, inventory management, and visual merchandising standards.
  • Oversee staffing needs, including scheduling, recruiting, training, and appraising team members. Ensure proper inventory management and maintain high stock levels of merchandise, analyzing customer needs, buying trends, and profitability to optimize stock levels.
  • Utilize ERP and POS systems (e.g., NetSuite, Shopify) to ensure efficient inventory tracking, stock rotation, and operational flow. Generate reports on sales, trends, customer preferences, and performance metrics. Use this data to drive informed decision-making and enhance store performance.
  • Work closely with global and domestic retail management teams to align local store operations with company-wide objectives. Maintain clear and consistent communication to drive the brand’s strategy and reinforce Carhartt WIP’s role in the industry.
  • Maintain the store's aesthetic and brand identity through creative and on-brand visual merchandising, ensuring that the store always reflects Carhartt WIP's style and meets the company’s high standards for layout and design.


       

      Requirements / Qualifications

       

      • 3-5 years of experience as a retail store manager in a high-volume, fast-paced clothing retail environment.
      • Proven leadership skills with experience in motivating, mentoring, and managing large teams.
      • Strong knowledge of apparel design, current fashion trends, and the cultural relevance of Carhartt WIP in contemporary fashion.
      • Experience using ERP, POS, and CRM systems (NetSuite, Shopify, etc.) to manage inventory and customer relationships.
      • Advanced retail math skills and the ability to create SKU plans, track buying trends, and optimize inventory for maximum profitability.
      • Expertise in visual merchandising and maintaining store presentation standards.
      • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
      • Ability to bring structured and results-driven environment while maintaining a strong customer-first mentality.
      • A passion for Carhartt WIP’s values, style, and place in the industry.


       

      Additional Information

       

      • Location: Full time at our Soho NY Store.
      • Reporting Structure: Direct report to the Retail Manager.
      • Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience.
